The Keller flap continues… The most appalling in this whole crusade against Bill and Emma Keller’s columns is The Guardian removing Emma Keller‘s column on Lisa Adams blogging and tweeting her Stage IV cancer. First off, the column isn’t even insulting toward Adams. Even if it was, since when in this country do we silence a writer because a reader might be offended? Why have we become a society of incredible wimps who – gasp! – can’t handle views other than our own. The Guardian said the story differed from their editorial policies. They didn’t know this before publishing? That’s when editorial decisions are typically made. What was Emma Keller’s journalistic or moral crime, having an opinion some others don’t share? Moving on…the only thing lacking dignity in Newsbuster‘s Tim Graham‘s take on the whole thing is his gratuitous critique of Obamacare, which really has nothing to do with what the Kellers wrote. Despite what Graham writes, Bill Keller is not “a jerk.” At least not for writing what he thinks about the public nature of what Adams is doing. Naturally NewsBusters uses the opportunity to engage in Obamacare bashing. Huh? “Welcome to the spirit of Obamacare,’ he writes after lambasting of the NYT columnist for his story on Adams. “Show some ‘dignity’ and die, already.” And check out this story in The New Yorker. It can run, of course, because it sympathizes profusely with Lisa Adams and bashes the Kellers, the only opinion we’re apparently allowed to read these days.
