The Republican National Committee is demanding the National Archives and Records Administration reveal who was behind the delayed release of the previously withheld documents from the William J. Clinton Presidential Library.
While the lawful period to withhold released of the documents expired in January 2013, no documents were released until last month and many still have yet to be released.
The delay has the RNC smelling a rat.
“The Clintons have a history of trying to keep their past secret from the American people,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said. “Americans deserve to know who was responsible for keeping on lockdown documents that should have been released over a year ago.”
The Republican National Committee sent a Freedom of Information Act request Friday to the National Archives and Records Administration — with a request that the FIOA fee be waived — requesting all the documents and correspondence between the players.
Specifically “any and all documents, correspondence, and e-mails, between designees, representatives, or staff of the National Archives and Records Administration, and designees, representatives, or staff of Bill Clinton or of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library” and “Any and all documents, correspondence, and e-mails, between designees, representatives, or staff of the National Archives and Records Administration, and designees, representatives, or staff of Hillary Clinton” regarding the review or withholding of the documents.
Several thousand of the more 30,000 pages of documents have already been released and with Hillary Clinton seen as front runner in the 2016 presidential sweepstakes the content has people eager to see just what they reveal about the former first lady.
“Keeping these documents secret doesn’t uphold the principles of accountability or transparency,” Preiebus said. “But it’s easy to see why Democrats would want them hidden. Among other things, they have revealed that even in the Clinton years, liberals knew that it was a deliberate lie to tell Americans they could keep their insurance plans and their doctors under HillaryCare-ObamaCare-style laws.”
