Rep. Vance McAllister, a Republican representing the 5th district of Louisiana, was caught on video two days before Christmas kissing and embracing his district scheduler, reports The Ouachita Citizen.

The video was obtained by The Ouachita Citizen from an anonymous source, and shows the congressman kissing and embracing a woman in a hallway for nearly a minute before they exit the building.

McAllister campaigned as a devout Christian last fall and has been married for 16 years. He and his wife have five children.

He won a special election to close out the term started by Rep. Rodney Alexander, who retired last year.

The woman he is seen kissing is reportedly his district scheduler, Melissa Peacock, 33.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Dec. 23, according to the Citizen. Images on Google Street View confirm The Ouachita Citizens’ report that it happened inside McAllister’s congressional office in Monroe, Louisiana.

UPDATE:

“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness,” McAllister said in a statement reported by The News Star. “I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff and my constituents who elected me to serve.

“Trust is something I know has to be earned whether you’re a husband, a father or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed. From day one, I’ve always tried to be an honest man. I ran for Congress to make a difference and not just be another politician.

“I don’t want to make a political statement on this, I would just simply like to say that I’m very sorry for what I’ve done. While I realize I serve the public, I would appreciate the privacy given to my children as we get through this.”
