#NotAllSubwayRestaurants Remove Pork Products From Menu To Appease Muslims

Apparently, the following is happening only in the UK. So far.

Sean Poulter, Daily Mail:

Fast food giant Subway has removed ham and bacon from almost 200 outlets, and switched to halal meat alternatives in an attempt to please its Muslim customers…

The chain, which has around 1,500 outlets across the UK, explained its decision by saying it had to balance animal welfare concerns with ‘the views of religious communities’.

I’m torn on this one. I’m not exactly a fan of creeping sharia. But on the other hand, this is a private business decision, based on the demands of their customers. It’s only being done at certain restaurants, presumably in majority-Muslim neighborhoods, and the stores are clearly marked. If you want a ham sub with extra bacon, you can go somewhere else. That’s how it’s supposed to work, right?

It’s not like when that Muslim dude went to a Burger King in England and thought an ice-cream lid was blasphemous, and BK spent a bunch of money redesigning it to they wouldn’t get blown up. UK Muslims aren’t telling everybody else they can’t eat bacon and ham.

Yet.

In a way, this makes sense. The word “Islam” means “submission.” And you can’t spell that without “sub”!
