Mandy Jones has taken Throwback Thursday to a whole new level and lives as a 1950s housewife, and she says it’s saved her marriage.

Jones, who lives in Staffordshire, England, said her marriage to her husband Gary was “stuck in a rut” and suggests that other women should try this lifestyle to keep their men happy, according to the Daily Mail.

“It may seem strange and we get the odd nasty comment, but this way of life works for us and has saved our marriage,” she said. “We love everything about the 1950s, from the clothes to the way of life. Since we started living like this I’ve been a better wife and Gary and I are closer than ever.”

“We should all take advice from our grandparents and start living the Fifties way.”

Jones wears vintage dresses and spends her free time cooking, cleaning and darning her husband’s socks while listening to records on her jukebox. She has dinner on the table for when Gary comes home from work. The couple also has a 1949 Chevrolet and redesigned their house in the retro 1950s style. They’ve even taken up Lindy Hop dancing.

“Gary and I were sick of the same routine and we were bickering on a daily basis,” Jones said. “We spent our weekends drinking at the pub until the early hours and it just got so boring.”

Because going back in time helped their marriage so much, the couple encourages others to take up their lifestyle since the divorce rate is so much higher today than in the 1950s.

“1950s marriages definitely work better than marriages these days,” Jones said. “The divorce rate is so high at the moment and it never used to be in the past.”

“We’re a lot happier living in the 1950s way, it has improved our marriage and enriched our lives.”
