Celebrity gossip website TMZ leaked photos on Friday of what the website claims is an iPhone 6, which Apple is rumored to officially announce next month.
It isn’t clear whether the alleged images are of a 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model, which rumors indicate may launch after the standard size model on Sept. 9.
According to the report the phone was smuggled out of a Foxconn factory in China, where Apple assembles its iPhones. A friend of an ex-factory employee allegedly snapped photographs of the phone, which included its back casing, side and packaging.
The images appear to match other photos leaked online claiming to depict the forthcoming iPhone, and was pictured being held next to an iPhone 5 to show its larger, thicker size by comparison. The body looks similar the fifth-generation iPod.
Apple has maintained its reputation for silence and secrecy about new products in regard to the iPhone 6, but during its quarterly earnings call last month, company CFO Peter Oppenheimer said Apple is “on track to have a very busy fall” — an indictor of multiple new product announcements later this year.
