Fox News host Greg Gutfeld claimed on Friday that President Barack Obama only chose to play a much-maligned round of golf after a statement on journalist James Foley’s beheading “because Fox News said not to.”

Journalistic outlets as diverse as The New York Times and (some) MSNBC hosts blasted the president for golfing just minutes after delivering a sober statement on the brutal beheading of Foley by Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Iraq. The Times called the move “defying his critics.”

“The president seems driven by critics more than common sense,” Gutfeld mused. “Maybe he wasn’t planning on golfing after the grim press conference, but chose to because some expressed concern that he would.”

“Does Obama golf because Fox News Channel says not to?” Gutfeld asked. “Does he do everything because Fox News Channel says not to? Once again it’s Fox Derangement System, afflicting those who are angry at Fox for being that one cheerleader who won’t go to second base.”

“It’s like if we say, ‘You should do this,’ he’s purposely not going to do it,” he later explained. “He’s like a sullen teenager at times.”
