Miley Cyrus won “Video of the Year” at the 2014 MTV VMAs, but opted out of receiving and instead watched tearfully as homeless youth Jesse took the stage, accepted her award from Jimmy Fallon, and explained how viewers could donate to My Friend’s Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood.

This was quite the change from last year’s performance when Miley, donning a nude pleather bikini, grinded against Robin Thicke while wagging her tongue and grabbing herself with a foam finger. (RELATED: Dominican Republic Bans Miley Cyrus Concert On ‘Morality Grounds’)

Jesse acknowledged homelessness in the Los Angeles area, but also America entirely.

“I survived in shelters all over the city. I’ve cleaned hotel rooms, been an extra in your movies and in your life.”

He told those watching to visit the singer’s Facebook page for further information. Cyrus noted this there, along with a video message.

“Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness! This is just the beginning for me, but we’re going to get started now by focusing on My Friend’s Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood.”

Still, the most surprising news from her VMA appearance, was that Miley was fully dressed. Well, for Miley.
