There it is.

Days after ESPN’s absurd report about his showering habits, Michael Sam has been cut by the St. Louis Rams, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Sam, a 7th round pick, was one of the final five players released as the team entered the day with 58 players on their roster.

All NFL rosters had to be cut down to 53 players by 4 p.m. EST this afternoon.

The 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Year would have become the first openly gay player to play in the NFL had he made the final roster.

After a solid preseason, which included three sacks (including one of Johnny Football), Sam looks to be a prime candidate for the Rams practice squad. He also could be claimed off waivers by another NFL team.
