The doctor who performed the unauthorized throat biopsy on Joan Rivers stopped to take a selfie in the operating room before starting the procedure on Rivers, who was under anesthesia, reports confirmed Tuesday.

Rivers, 81, was undergoing a routine endoscopic procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy Aug. 28 when she quit breathing and went into cardiac arrest. After being rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, the talk show host spent a week on life support before she died Sept. 4.

The doctor who performed the biopsy has not been publicly identified, and was reportedly not certified by the clinic. Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the clinic’s medical director, performed the routine endoscopy before the biopsy, and has also been fired from the Manhattan clinic.
