HBO has finally confirmed that actors Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell will star in the second season of HBO’s crime series “True Detective.”

The series, written and created by Nic Pizzolatto, will feature eight hour-long episodes. Vaughn had been rumored, but not confirmed, for its second season. Farrell confirmed his role to the Irish newspaper “Sunday World” on Saturday, saying he was “so excited.”

Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.” Vaughn will be a “career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

As far as the plot line goes, HBO included this in the press release.

“Logline: Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

There is no word as to who will play the third detective. The season begins shooting late this fall in California, with Justin Lin from the “Fast and Furious” series directing the first two episodes.
