A new poll from Rasmussen Reports shows that 55 percent of Americans believe that President Barack Obama does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

Not only does Obama not deserve the global peace award now, but Americans also think that he never should have received it in the first place.

Obama supporters, who think that he still does deserve the award, amount to a paltry 26 percent, and 18 percent of Americans surveyed are still uncertain. However, 89 percent of Republicans and 22 percent of Democrats are in full agreement on this. This poll follows a series of negative polls showing exactly how Americans view the president: indecisive, inept, and easily outmaneuvered.

Nevertheless, 56 percent of Democrats still support the president winning the award. Even Obama acknowledged during his acceptance speech on Dec. 10, 2009, that receiving the award after only a year in office was improbable, having done almost nothing to deserve it.

Based on the track record of the Nobel, 54 percent of Americans believe that the award is doled out for political reasons, up from 51 percent in 2013 and 40 percent in 2008. Only 17 percent disagree and 30 percent are unsure. Men are more inclined to think that the Nobel is given out for political reasons, whereas women tend to believe the award is more prestigious.

The Nobel Prizes were instituted in the late 1800s by the wealthy Scandinavian inventor Alfred Nobel to award those who have done incredible and long-lasting work in building fraternity between nations and reducing standing armies.

Rasmussen Reports conducted the survey from Oct. 6-7 using a sample of 1,000 adults, giving a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The poll was initiated to coincide with the Nobel Prize Committee giving out the 2014 Peace Prizes this week.
