Texas Agency Pushes Back On HuffPost Story About Houston Mayor’s Daughter

The Texas Department of Public Services pushed back on a Friday Huffington Post story that claimed that the mayor of Houston’s daughter was denied a driver’s license because she had “two moms.”

Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who is in a lesbian marriage, tweeted the story personally:

Daughter needs drivers test. Has all docs, some in MomA name, some MomK, but w/ birth cert showing both. DPS says can only be from 1 mom!-A

Other outlets like Gawker, MSNBC.com, and The Houston Chronicle passed the story along uncritically. (RELATED: CAIR, Huffington Post Fall For ‘Obvious Hoax’ Video [VIDEO])

Huffington Post had to update its story with a statement from a Department of Public Services press secretary Tom Vinger calling the story false:

“All individuals applying for their first Texas driver license must provide a variety of documents to prove their identity, Social Security Number, U.S. citizenship or lawful presence status, and Texas residency. In this case, the adult applicant did not initially present sufficient documentation to prove residency In this case, the adult applicant did not initially present sufficient documentation to prove residency. Once she provided the required documentation, she was able to complete the transaction. There is no indication that any delay in the process was related to same-sex marriage.”
