In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, you’re probably aware that Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is the most polarizing figure in college athletics.
On one hand, the reigning Heisman trophy winner is an electric force under center and mows in the back end of the FSU baseball team’s bullpen. On the other, Winston’s crab-stealing, obscenity-yelling, (allegedly) sexually-assaulting off-field decisions are jeopardizing the most promising two-sport career this side of Bo Jackson.
Winston needs some serious help before he runs flat off the rails, and former-NFL great Randy Moss is the perfect fit to act as Jameis’ mentor.
On Fox Sports, Moss made it abundantly clear that he was both willing and able to guide the young man:
“He’s still a young man. You have the people from the National Football League, and he’s still on the baseball field too. So there are a lot of professional people who are really looking at him, and seeing if he can come and lead a professional team… He needs the ‘no’ people in his camp. Sometimes people get in your life for the wrong reasons. I’ll say to Jameis … If you need someone, reach out to me.”
“I like Jameis Winston, I went to Florida State, so I know some of the things he’s going through as far as the hype and magnitude of where he’s at. Those no people, what I mean is, those people to be able to tell him no.”
Like Winston, Moss was born and raised in a rural community. Like Winston, Moss first took his football talents to FSU. Like Winston, Moss was vilified for some of his behavior off the field.
Despite all the obstacles working, Randy managed to turn his life around and became one of the most respected men to ever play the game– at least in the mind of this simple reporter. Oh, and the guy was absolutely lights-out on the field.
