No challengers have publicly stepped up yet to challenge Reince Priebus for a third term leading the Republican National Committee.

The RNC chairman election is slated for the party’s winter meeting in January.

Priebus has not yet officially announced whether he plans to seek a third term. He may be waiting until after this weekend’s run-off in the Louisiana Senate race before making an announcement, one person close to him told The Daily Caller.

If Priebus runs, as is widely expected, he may not face a significant opponent.

Solomon Yue, an RNC member from Oregon, told TheDC Friday that he is unaware of any potential challengers to Priebus, and he doubts anyone else will get in the race.

“I do not expect anyone to challenge him because there is a bottleneck,” Yue said in an email, explaining that he doubts anyone else could secure enough support from delegates and states to even be nominated.

That was the case in the last election: Mark Willis, a RNC committeeman and former Ron Paul delegate from Maine, launched a campaign against Priebus in 2013 but failed to even qualify for the ballot.

Priebus was first elected RNC chairman in 2011. That year, he was one four challengers to incumbent chairman, Michael Steele.

Since taking over the RNC, Priebus has boasted of getting the committee’s financial footing back after the RNC racked up millions in debt until Steele.
