Politico chief political reporter Mike Allen is a well-regarded political journalist, best know for sending out the daily Politico Playbook that is widely read by D.C. insiders. It’s a bit jarring, therefore, to learn he once apologized to former president Bill Clinton for asking tough questions during an interview. The revelation is tucked into a New York Times piece on the preparations being made by the presumptive Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign:

For example, last month in Little Rock, Ark., a Politico reporter, Mike Allen, lobbed a couple of unexpected questions at Mr. Clinton after he delivered prepared remarks at the “Playbook Cocktails with Bill Clinton” event.

Mr. Clinton made news by questioning whether Mr. Obama’s delay on an immigration overhaul affected the weak turnout of Latinos in the midterm elections. Mr. Clinton’s team appeared livid with the organizers about the unanticipated questions.

“I had misunderstood the parameters, and I’m very sorry about that,” Mr. Allen said. A spokesman for Mr. Clinton declined to comment.

Allen has not yet responded to The Daily Caller’s requests for comments. This article will be updated if and when he does.
