The Reverend Al Sharpton is trying to shift focus away from his own out-of-control protests and make himself into the victim because he allegedly received at least one angry voice mail message.

Sharpton said Sunday that he is under “intense threat” because he received several intimidating phone calls after a gunman killed two New York police officers in retribution for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

“I have instructed our attorneys last night, I have began receiving threatening phone calls and hate. I’ll play one because I’m turning this over to the FBI,” Sharpton said at a press conference with Garner’s widow and mother in the aftermath of the execution-style murders of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu by Ismaaiyl Brinsley.

“The language is ‘hey N-word, stop killing innocent people, I’m going to get you,’ and I have several like this,” Sharpton said. “So we are now under intense threat.”

Sharpton also put forth a not-altogether-rousing condemnation of the shooting of the officers.

“This is a pursuit of justice to make the city work fairly for everyone,” Sharpton said. “This is not about trying to take things in our own hands. That does not solve the problem of police misconduct. If we go into a area where’s it’s an eye for an eye, then it is only a matter of who can out-plunk eyes, rather than who can make the system fair.”
