An officer in Tarpon Springs, Fla., was killed early Sunday, hours after the executions of two New York Police Department officers Saturday.
Charles “Charlie K” Kondek was shot sometime between 2-3 a.m. while responding to a call, and was transported to Florida Hospital North Pinellas where he died. The shooter fled in a minivan and crashed into a power pole and a pickup truck before being taken into custody.
The motive for the shooting is unclear, and there is no immediate indication that the shooting was related to the NYPD officers who were killed.
Kondek, 45, was a 17-year veteran that spent time as an NYPD officer, Bay News 9 reports.
Tarpon Springs Police Department posted on Facebook about the killing, and Tarpon Springs Police Chief Robert Kochen will hold a press conference Sunday afternoon.
