SCHOCK AND AWFUL: Rep. Schock Aide Resigns After A Really Bad Week

When your Facebook page compares blacks to animals, there’s a good chance your congressman boss is going to accept your resignation without tears.

Which is what Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) did Thursday after reports in BuzzFeed News and ThinkProgress surfaced saying as much about his top advisor and communications director, Ben Cole. The other post that brought him down involved building a mosque for President Obama on the White House grounds.

And to think this all began with an innocent story in The Washington Post about a congressman who made his Washington office look like a scene out of “Downton Abbey.” Granted, Cole didn’t handle the PR too well (i.e. it was a DISASTER). Still, it wasn’t necessarily actionable at that point.

Noteworthy: The Peoria Journal Star first reported, followed up by Politico at 3 p.m., a pub that didn’t bother to cite the Peoria Journal Star.
