Apparently, while they were on their way to crashing into a barrier at the White House, two secret service agents also drove through an on-site bomb investigation.

The two agents, one of whom is “second in command” of Obama’s personal detail, may have driven over a suspicious item wrapped in a shirt that a woman had dropped off in front of the White House, reported The Washington Post.

The woman ditched the suspicious item around 10:30, yelling at nearby officers that it was a bomb, and then successfully driving away despite attempts to detain her. The officers secured the area and called an inspection team to the site, but just before eleven the high-ranking Secret Service agents drove right through the scene in a car and hit a temporary barricade.

They were returning from a work party at a bar nearby. Some of the Secret Service officers on duty suspected they were drunk and wanted to arrest them, but a more senior officer stopped them and let the pair drive away.

The woman was found two days later and questioned about the “bomb,” which was actually a book wrapped in a shirt.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Jason Chaffetz told The Washington Post this latest Secret Service mishap implies some of them think they’re above the law. (RELATED: Top Ranking Secret Service Agents Forced Out)

“The director needs to send a message,” he said. “He needs to signal there is going to be new accountability in the agency. “We’re still learning all the facts, but I’m still not very impressed by how this is going.”
