Where Did SNL Get That ‘Draw Muhammad’ Sketch?

Font Size:

If you watched SNL this weekend, two things.

First of all, you probably saw this sketch:

Not bad, right? They can’t draw #TheProphetMuhammadPeaceBeUponHim, or some peace-loving Islamists who are no danger to anyone in America will try to kill them. Pretty edgy, at least for the dying toothless beast that SNL has become.

But as Steven Crowder noticed, this is very similar to a sketch from a few months ago on the CBC’s long-running This Hour Has 22 Minutes. And when I say “very similar,” I mean it’s the exact same joke:

I don’t know, man. If it was just the same premise, I could chalk it up to parallel thinking. But the exact same premise and punchline? Even the celebrity impersonations in the SNL sketch, as expertly delivered as they are, can’t hide that it’s the same damn joke.

This SNL sketch seems, as the young people say, sketchy. But then, I’m probably biased.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the second thing: My condolences.
