Sporting goods giant Under Armour has removed a new t-shirt from its online store after receiving tremendous backlash from the military community for its trivial depiction of an iconic scene from the Battle of Iwo Jima.
The shirt in question — formerly titled “Band of Ballers” — depicted the silhouettes of four individuals raising a basketball hoop over a court, but veterans quickly took to social media to blast the historical re-interpretation.
Critics claimed the shirt cheapened the sacrifice of the men and women who died fighting on the island, and after hearing the outpouring of disdain over the design, Under Armour offered the following apology via Twitter:
