Obama To Peasants On Climate Change: Sacrifices For Thee, Not For Me

As the great Glenn Reynolds says: “I’ll start believing it’s a crisis when the people who tell me it’s a crisis start acting like it.”

Don’t start believin’.

Eric Holthaus, Slate:

If Barack Obama wants you to fly across the Atlantic to talk about nature for a half-hour, then you do it.

But Obama probably doesn’t want you to do that. He wanted legendary nature documentarian and environmental advocate Sir David Attenborough. According to the Telegraph, Attenborough was flown to the White House from his London home last month for a 30-minute meeting with the president. Apparently, the president is a big nature buff—though the meeting seems like it was a bit odd…

Even upon leaving Washington, though, Attenborough admits he was “baffled” as to why Obama called for the meeting in the first place, other than just to chat.

I don’t know what’s so baffling about it. Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and he can do whatever he wants. If he wants to increase Sir David Attenborough’s carbon footprint by summoning him for a face-to-face about the environment, then it’s not hypocrisy because he’s the one doing it.

Phone? Skype? Gchat? All that stuff is for the little people. Y’know, the ones who are actually funding Obama’s various whims.

Speaking of global warming climate change angry sky gods, guess what else is about to get a whole lot more expensive?

The next time Attenborough gets invited to the White House for no apparent reason, he’d better swim.
