The outspoken presidential candidate and real estate magnate Donald Trump is once again defending his comments he made about illegal aliens from Mexico being criminals. He said he was surprised by the backlash.

“The crime is raging and it’s violent. And if you talk about it, it’s racist,” Trump told Fox News, days after an illegal Mexican immigrant deported five previous times allegedly killed a woman in San Francisco.

He made the remarks during his June 16 presidential announcement speech. (RELATED – Macy’s To Trump: You’re Fired!)

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best,” he said during the announcement. “They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”

“I didn’t know it was going to be this severe,” Trump said Saturday. “I am a whipping post.”

A number of corporations have distanced themselves from Trump following his remarks on Mexico including Macy’s, NBC, and Univision. Trump filed a $500 million dollar lawsuit against Univision after they refused to air the Miss Universe pageant which Trump co-owns.

Univision called the lawsuit “both factually false and legally ridiculous,” and said it would vigorously defend itself.
