Amandla Stenberg criticized Kylie Jenner for wearing her hair in cornrows because she’s appropriating black culture by doing so, Sternberg said.
The 17-year-old posted a photo of her braided hair on Instagram Sunday, then the “Hunger Games” actress commented on it.
“When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.”
Jenner responded, “Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do….Go hang w Jaden or something” in reference to Jaden Smith, who Stenberg went to prom with recently.
Stenberg later posted a photo talking about the “mentality surround black femininity.”
“Black features are beautiful. Black women are not. White women are paragons of virtue and desire. Black women are objects of fetishism and brutality.”
“This appears to be the mentality surrounding black femininity and beauty in a society built upon Eurocentric beauty standards.” (PHOTOS: Will Smith’s Son Went To Prom Dressed In His White Batman Suit, Mask And All)
