Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer blasted the Iran deal, saying it will “legitimize Iran as a nuclear weapons state a few years later.”

Dermer appeared on “New Day” Wednesday and told Chris Cuomo that, “if you listen to Senator Menendez’s speech yesterday, he will tell you the [Obama] administration opposed the very sanctions that brought Iran to the table.”

Ron Dermer: The price of removing the sanctions should have been to take away Iran’s nuclear weapons capability.

Chris Cuomo: But they say they have done that.

Dermer: They haven’t.

Cuomo: That for this period, they won’t be able to do it and we’ll be able to check if they try to.

Dermer; But the price you are paying to at best, if Iran does not violate this deal, and this inspection regime is very porous, and Iran can violate the deal, at best, you are delaying it for a few years. And the price for delaying it is to legitimize Iran as a nuclear weapons state a few years later. That’s a very bad deal.

Cuomo: What was the better deal? What was the better deal?

Dermer: The better deal is to actually hold firm. To keep crippling sanctions on Iran.

Cuomo: But you know the allies didn’t want to do it.

Dermer: You know, the allies didn’t want the sanctions a few years ago. If you listen to Senator Menendez’s speech yesterday, he will tell you the administration opposed the very sanctions that brought Iran to the table. They went to Senator Menendez and they went to his committee, said ‘Don’t put these sanctions on because it’s going to make it more difficult with our allies.’ They were wrong then and they are wrong now. You can get a better deal Chris than the one that is on the table. This deal is unacceptable.
