A judge denied two major motions in the pre-trial hearing Wednesday for the six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

The two motions in the case were:

1. To have the case dismissed for what critics called prosecutorial misconduct by State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby.

2. To have Mosby recuse herself from the case.

Mosby was criticized for giving a passionate speech when announcing the charges and for conducting an independent investigation into the case, but those arguments did not prevail, The Baltimore Sun reports.

The hearing will begin again at 2 p.m. to address the question of whether the officers will be tried together or divided up.

Protesters have gathered outside the courthouse for the hearing. One protester was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
