As questions loom over whether Joe Biden will enter the Democratic presidential field, the vice president hinted during a Labor Day speech in Pittsburgh that he has votes on his mind.

“Back in Delaware, if you make someone stand on a hard floor for more than 15 minutes you lose all their votes,” the former Delaware senator told an audience at the United Steelworkers headquarters Monday afternoon.

“I don’t want to lose your…,” Biden began before pausing and adding: “I don’t want to lose your friendship.”

Calls for Biden to run for president have increased as Hillary Clinton’s email scandal continues to haunt her campaign. Biden has met with several influential progressive politicians, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He’s not given a timeline for when he will decide to run. The 72-year-old has said that he does not know if he will have the emotional energy to run again. His oldest son, Beau, died from a brain tumor earlier this summer.

During Monday’s speech, Biden told an audience member who urged him to run “you’ve got to talk to my wife about that. I’ve got to talk to my wife about that.”

Biden also said that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is “doing a hell of a job, by the way.” He did not mention Clinton.
