“Monday Night Football” announcer Jon Gruden is in hot water after he accidentally declared Shane Vereen one of the best “black backs” in the NFL during Monday’s game between the Giants and Eagles.
GRUDEN: I expect sometime in the near future for Eli to use a double move. Eli — very good in the two minute drill. He proved that last week against when they beat San Francisco, and Shane Vereen — number 34 — is one of the best receiving black backs in football.
Ironically, Vereen dropped a pass immediately following Gruden’s comments, but that didn’t stop the Internet from crucifying the former Super Bowl champion coach.
