The Democratic candidate for Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards made a move surely to raise eyebrows Thursday when he canceled an appearance at the state’s Family Forum in favor of a voter drive held at an adult-themed hip-hop club in New Orleans.
Lyve Nite Club advertised its event with Edwards on its Instagram page before taking it down after a local blog, The Hayride, reported on it.
That Instagram page also features risque advertising.
The advertisement for the event said that a “party bus and drinks” would be provided to those who sign up for early voting. The party bus provided by the Edwards campaign comes with a stripper pole.
Edwards is currently engaged in an ugly run-off battle with Republican candidate Sen. [crscore]David Vitter[/crscore]. The Democrat has taken every chance to attack Vitter over the senator’s involvement in a 2007 D.C. prostitution scandal in an effort to win over more socially conservative voters.
