15-year-old Zaevion Dobson was fatally shot while shielding three teenage girls after shooters “randomly” opened fire on a crowd in Knoxville, Tennessee on Friday.

“Zaevion Dobson, a 15-year-old Fulton High School student and football player, was struck and killed after he had jumped on top of three girls to shield them from the shooters” said in a statement to Knoxville Police Chief David.

Rausch said that shooter Brandon Perry, 23, started his deadly spree by first shooting his mother in the back at their home.

Perry then joined two other men and “randomly” opened fire on the crowd in which Dobson was killed before fleeing. He crashed a BMW into a nearby apartment complex and died on the scene due from gunshot wounds, reports KTLA.

Both men he was with were later apprehended after fleeing the site of the crash.
