Canadian-born goalie Shannon Szabados became the first female to post a shutout in a men’s professional hockey league Saturday night.
Szabados guards the net for the Columbus Cottonmouths in the Southern Professional Hockey League, and become the first woman to complete the accomplishment during a 3-0 win against the Huntsville Havoc. She stopped 33 shots from the Havoc en route to the victory.

The SPHL might be one of the lowest level of men’s hockey, but Szabados accomplishment is still impressive. She was also a brick wall in the net for Canada during the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, and won gold medals both years. (RELATED: NHL Announcer Responds To Players’ Fight In Best Possible Way)
Through 12 games in the SPHL this season she is averaging 3.58 GAA, and a save percentage of .909.
