Real estate mogul turned presidential candidate Donald Trump raked the Obama administration and environmentalists over the coals Wednesday afternoon for depriving him of hairspray.
Trump voiced his disapproval of the U.S. aerosol ban, and in the process, lampooned environmentalists and global warming alarmism campaigns to rid the world of the supposed ozone-layer damaging aerosol cans. He said that the bans squelch his freedom to use products like hairspray to mold and frame his quaffed hair.
“You can’t use hairspray because hairspray is going to affect the ozone,” Trump said at a rally in South Carolina. “They don’t want me to use hairspray. They want me to use the pump.”
The Trump hairstyle is almost as controversial as the man himself. During a tiff with the Republican front runner in 2006, for instance, former The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell used her on-air time to imitate Trump by yanking her hair to one side, mocking the Trump comb-over. She went on to call the billionaire a “snake-oil salesman on Little House On The Prairie.”
Still, Trump has taken the hair insults in stride, even championing his do, calling the hairstyle part of his signature look. It bothers him when hair products that “glob” fail to live up to the standards hairspray set.
“It comes out in big globs, right, and it’s stuck in your hair and you say, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to take a shower again. My hair is all screwed up,'” Trump said about non-aerosol products.
Fearing the chlorofluorocarbons in aerosol cans were damaging the Earth’ ozone layer, the U.S. government officially banned the propellants in 1978. Nearly every country on the planet followed suit with the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1989. The ban predates Obama, but that fact did not stop Trump from deriding the president’s supposed hypocrisy on the matter.
The real-estate tycoon made fun of President Obama at the rally, telling the bemused crowd that the President jumps from place to place on a giant “pollution-spewing” Boeing 747, while, at the same time, demanding Americans stop using aerosol cans because they destroy the ozone layer.
His jet-setting way, Trump told the crowd, only shows that President Obama has “a problem with a carbon footprint.”
Trump also reassured the crowd that his hair grooming activities do not damage the ozone, because he molds his hair inside his hermetically sealed Manhattan apartment.
