After Sen. [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore]’s disappointing fifth place finish in New Hampshire, his campaign is bracing for the possibility of a brokered convention.

Rubio’s campaign had been hoping for their “3-2-1” strategy to come to fruition: third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire, and first in South Carolina.

But Terry Sullivan, Rubio’s campaign manager, said Wednesday that the nomination process could last for three more months, at least.

“We very easily could be looking at May — or the convention,” Sullivan told the Associated Press.

The Florida senator is currently third in delegate count among the GOP field, with 10. Donald Trump leads with 17 delegates, and 1,237 are required for the nomination. The Republican Party has not had a contested convention since 1976. (OPINION: The Thriving Genre Of Marco Rubio Fan Fiction)
