The Mexican government will not pay “a single peso” towards the border Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump plans to build if elected, according to the Mexican Treasury Secretary.

Luis Videgaray Caso told the Mexican daily Milenio Thursday that Mexico will “under no circumstances” pay for a border wall, and could not envision “any scenario” where Mexico would pitch in.

In spite of his statements, Videgaray said Mexico is looking to maintain an open dialogue with the White House and the next administration. Throughout the presidential campaign, businessman Donald Trump has insisted that not only will he build “the greatest wall you’ve ever seen,” but that “Mexico will pay” for its construction.

The interview of Videgaray comes after weeks of various Mexican politicians and government officials heavily criticizing Trump. Former Mexican President Vicente Fox’s said Feb. 25, “I’m not going to pay for that fucking wall.”

Both Vicente Fox as well as former President Felipe Calderon have compared the Republican front-runner to Adolf Hitler.
