Reigning Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning officially retired from professional football Monday.
An emotional Manning held a press conference in Englewood, CO and — after a brief moment of silence — reflected back on an illustrious 18 year career.
“Well, I have stayed at it,” Manning told the group of reporters. “I’ve stayed at it for 18 years.”
“There’s just something about 18 years. 18 is a good number,” the future hall of famer continued, “and today, I retire from pro football.”
