Hillary Clinton told self-avowed “super-predator” and radio host Charlamagne Tha God that she was “glad” that he “refined” himself, a line that two other hosts took as a joke.
While appearing on “The Breakfast Club” on New York’s hip-hop and R&B station Power 105.1 on Monday, Clinton said, “If I’m fortunate enough to be president, I’m going to be on your show again. I’ll invite you to the White House.” (VIDEO: Bill Clinton: Black Lives Matter Defends Black People Who Kill Other Black People)
Host Charlamagne Tha God, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, interjected, “Now, listen … don’t lie to me, Hillary.”
Clinton replied, “I’m not. I would never do that.”
Co-host Angelea Yee interjected, “If he has a criminal record, can he get in the White House?”
Charlamagne added, “I have one. I’m a super-predator. I used to be.”
“Oh well, I’m glad you’ve refined yourself,” Clinton replied, as the two other hosts laughed.
Clinton has faced backlash recently for using the term “super-predator” in a 1996 speech about crime, which some activists consider has racist connotations. While first lady, Clinton said, “They are often the kinds of kids that are called ‘super-predators.’ No conscience, no empathy, we can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel.”
New York’s primary is scheduled for Tuesday.
