South Carolina Rep. [crscore]Trey Gowdy[/crscore] said Friday that the House Select Committee on Benghazi will release its long-related report about the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks within the next month.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press Daily,” the Republican told host Chuck Todd that he initially wanted to release the report at the end of last year. But he says that the Obama administration stonewalled the release of documents that he had requested for the investigation.

“I wanted it to come out in 2015,” Gowdy said.

“But I can’t stop an investigation because an executive branch agency won’t give me documents,” he continued. “And we’re still owed documents. So we’re going to get the report out, it will be in the next month and then i’ll just let the reader know, this is what we’re missing, these are the agencies that haven’t produced it to us.”

The battle between Benghazi Committee Republicans and Democrats has heated up in recent weeks as the release of the report nears. Democrats have accused Gowdy and his fellow Republicans of unnecessarily prolonging the investigation and wasting money to conduct it.

Republicans have accused Democrats of failing to contribute at all to the investigation.

Gowdy and company have also battled the State Department and Defense Department over the production of documents and witnesses.

In the interview Todd pushed Gowdy to confirm that the report will be released before the GOP and Democratic conventions this summer.

“Yes, it will be before the conventions,” Gowdy he said.
