The White House was on lockdown Friday after Secret Service officers reportedly shot a male suspect who brandished a weapon at a security checkpoint west of the building grounds.
Secret Service shot the man in the stomach after he allegedly pulled out a weapon and arrested him, reports CNN. The suspect has been taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
U.S. Park Police and the Secret Service are responding to the incident and cleared tourists of surrounding areas. People were screaming as officials cleared the area according to ABC News.
President Obama was not at the White House when the shooting happened, and Vice President Joe Biden was secured on the grounds. The lockdown was lifted around 4 p.m.
