Mexican soccer player Alan Pulido has freed himself from kidnappers in the cartel infested state of Tamaulipas by fighting his captors in the early hours of Monday morning.
Pulido, who plays for the Mexican national team and the Greek professional soccer club Olympiakos, beat one of his captors to escape possible death. The 25-year-old soccer pro was alone with one of the kidnappers when he went for the thug’s gun and cell phone.
The Mexican soccer phenom made three calls to the cops, and during the first call was in the midst of beating his guard to find out their secret location, according to the Associated Press. On his second call, Pulido told the dispatcher that he saw cop cars out front. On the third call, he checked if they were good cops or criminals pretending to be cops.
Tamaulipas State Attorney General Ismael Quintanilla admitted that police were quick to respond to the call because of Pulido’s celebrity status. Quintanilla said ,”Everyone began to activate to look for him, especially when we knew who he was, because we knew it was going to make a big ruckus and was going to be affecting us a lot in the press.”
Pulido told reporters that he was doing, “Very well, thank God.” Tamaulipas state is a stronghold of the Los Zetas cartel.
