During Tuesday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Josh Earnest dodged a question asking him to defend Hillary Clinton’s decision not to cooperate with the Inspector General’s probe into her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

The report the Inspector General’s office released in late May stated Clinton refused to use a government email to avoid risking making her personal records “accessible.” (RELATED: IG Report Shows Hillary Refused To Make Secret Email Account Accessible)

“I’d have to refer you to Secretary Clinton’s team for how she handled those questions,” Earnest told a reporter who had asked if the White House believed Clinton “should have cooperated in the IG’s investigation.”

“I think what is clear from the IG that they took a broad look at what the department of state needs to do to ensure that they are in compliance with the relevant rules, but also to make sure they are handling these records in a way that is appropriate and consistent with the commitment that the president has placed on government transparency.”

On Monday, Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta penned an email to her supporters assuring them that had she “known of any concerns about her email setup at the time, she would have taken steps to address them.” (VIDEO: Clinton Camp Has A New Explanation For Her Use Of Private Email Server)
