Fans have known that “Rogue One: A Stars Story” — the first entry in a planned series of spinoff films — will include a cameo from Darth Vader himself; however, the iconic character’s role in the film was far from clear.

Thanks to a new report from Good Morning America, fans have learned that Vader’s role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is far more significant than just a brief appearance to service the fans.
Though he may not actually be on screen a lot, his presence will be a driving factor for the film’s primary antagonist.
Vader’s presence will be directly linked to the power structure the heroes are trying to bring down. The film’s primary villain, played by Ben Mendelsohn, will be wary of letting Vader down for fear of what means for him.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” arrives in theaters on Dec. 16.
