A pilot on a recent commercial airline flight captured footage of what appears to be a recent NASA satellite launch.

WATCH:

The plane was traveling from Baltimore, MD to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and had been “redirected inland to stay out of the launch path.”

“The plane is about 13 miles from the shuttle launch and it was about 28,000ft,” notes the video’s description.

One commenter drew attention to the fact that the object was not actually a space shuttle, like the title claimed, but most likely the United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V MUOS-5.

According to the ULA, the “Mobile User Objective System (MUOS-5) satellite is the latest addition to a network of orbiting satellites and relay ground stations that is revolutionizing secure communications for mobile military forces.”
