A Houston man was executed while fishing with his two cousins late Sunday night in Texas.

The man’s cousins, a 19-year-old and a 9-year-old boy, are both survivors and witnesses of the horrific crime.

The three relatives were leisurely enjoying the outdoors along Halls Bayou, according to 6abc. The suspect appeared out of the woods, approached the group and then initiated a conversation with the 19-year-old about having attended the same high school. The conversation then took a turn for the worse as the man ordered the three to their knees.

The suspect executed Michael Wilson, the 39-year-old, and then pointed the gun at the 19-year-old. The weapon failed to go off.

“They say he came out the woods on my son and make them bow down on their knees. The gun got jammed on the little boy but it did not get jammed on my son,” Sheila Yates Wilson, mother of Michael, told reporters.

“When he realized the gun was jammed, he [the 19-year-old] got up and started running and my suspect continued chasing him until he started coming up this hill,” Houston Police Department’s Latonia Bailey said. “And then the suspect turned around and went the way he came, down the bayou,” reported ABC news.

If the gun did not jam, the suspect was likely going to kill the 19-year-old and 9-year-old boy, who were on their knees when their older cousin was murdered, according to reports.

Police have described the assailant as a young Hispanic male, likely around the ages of 18 or 19, with a thin build, and a long black hair with a ponytail, according to NBC news’ Houston affiliate.

“My son is laying down dead behind something that he was not doing. Fishing, just fishing, and then a child was involved in it too? That’s wrong,” Wilson told ABC news.
