A Democratic National Committee delegate who has pledged to support Hillary Clinton won’t be attending the party’s convention next week because she shot her husband in the neck during a drunken dispute over the weekend.

The at-large delegate — and shooter — is 47-year-old Deanna Vicites. She is currently residing in a western Pennsylvania county jail.

The gunshot victim is local bigwig Vincent Vicites, Fayette County commissioner.

The shooting incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday morning inside the fairly modest ranch home of Vicites and her now-seriously-wounded husband near Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

A neighbor called emergency services at around 5 a.m. upon hearing Vincent Vicites, 55, yelling for someone to “call 911,” reports Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI.

Vicites also ran downstairs to plead for help from an unidentified man who lives in the couple’s basement, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

When state troopers arrived, they found Deanna Vicites curled up by the front door and Vincent Vicites bloodied from a gunshot wound to the neck — just under his chin — caused by a .38-caliber revolver.

The quarreling husband and wife admitted they had been drinking and arguing but otherwise gave troopers highly inconsistent stories.

Deanna Vicites first told investigators that her husband is a serial abuser. He was choking her, she said, and she shot him to protect herself.

The Hillary supporter later recanted these claims, according to WPXI, and told troopers that what really happened is that she was depressed and was trying to kill herself with a bullet to the head but Vincent Vicites managed to change the angle of the gun. Then, Deanna Vicites said, it went off and shot Vincent Vicites in the neck.

“She said the gun went off and struck him,” a police affidavit obtained by the Post-Gazette states. “She said she was not sure how he was hit. She said she just wanted to kill herself, not shoot him.”

Vincent Vicites — who couldn’t speak because of the bullet stuck in his throat — jotted down his description of the night’s events on paper.

The way the injured husband tells it, he was sitting in a chair in the couple’s living room, half asleep. Deanna Vicites walked by with the family gun and, somehow, it went off right when she was passing by the chair.

“He confirmed that it was his wife Deanna that shot him,” the police affidavit says.

“One minute he was saying he was sleeping when he was shot. The next minute he said it was an accident,” the affidavit also says. “He could not explain how it was an accident.”

Fayette County District Attorney Richard Bower has charged Deanna Vicites with attempted homicide and a handful of other crimes.

“This is an intentional, reckless act,” Bower said earlier this week, according to the Post-Gazette.

After the shooting, Vincent Vicites was rushed to a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. He has since had surgery. His condition is stable.

In the wake of the shooting, Deanna Vicites has resigned as a Clinton-supporting delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention. A substitute delegate will replace her.

Vincent Vicites filed for bankruptcy earlier this month, according to Pittsburgh ABC affiliate WTAE-TV.

He has two adult sons. Deanna Vicites is his second wife.
