A New Jersey legislator with the state’s General Assembly recently introduced a bill that would fight against the Obama administration’s transgender bathroom policy.

Ronald Dancer, a Republican legislator in New Jersey’s General Assembly, introduced a bill currently pending before the Assembly Education Committee that would allow the Attorney General’s office to make sure schools do not lose funding if they don’t follow Obama’s Title IX interpretation, reports APP.

“This legislation will not only further New Jersey’s public policy on protecting all students against discrimination, but at the same time, recognize and protect the privacy rights of all students as well,” Dancer said in a news release.

The bill, called A3976, says that the state’s attorney general will help public schools that need assistance when the government threatens to take away federal funding over the transgender bathroom issue.

“The Attorney General shall provide assistance to any school district or charter school in a legal proceeding directly related to an action by the federal government to reduce or eliminate federal aid to the school district or charter school in response to alleged noncompliance,” the bill states.

The bill says that it is up to the attorney general to decide what help to give the schools, provided the school meets New Jersey’s  “The Law Against Discrimination.” This anti-bias law makes it illegal for employers to discriminate in the job application process based on religion, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc., while also banning sexual harassment.

“The assistance provided by the 30 Attorney General may be legal or financial, or any other type of 31 assistance deemed appropriate by the Attorney General,” the bill reads.

“We are witnessing an unprecedented overreach by the federal government. Schools in New Jersey have educated students of all races, religions and genders, without discrimination, for decades,” Dancer said about his bill.
