Republican nominee Donald Trump would be “foolish” to release his tax returns, because they’d be examined by ignorant people.

“You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about taxes trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on things they know nothing about,” Eric Trump said Wednesday on CNBC. “It would be foolish to do.”

“I’m actually the biggest proponent of not doing it,” he added.

Democrats have been clamoring for Trump to release his returns as he continues his presidential campaign. Trump has refused on the grounds he’s under a routine audit by the IRS. Critics say his refusal to release them actually shows he has something to hide, and speculate they would reveal he’s not as wealthy as he says, or that he pays $0 in taxes.

Every other major party candidate since 1976 has released their returns, reports The Wall Street Journal, including Clinton and her running mate Sen. Tim Kaine. Trump says he can’t release the returns until the IRS audit is completed.

There is “no tax attorney in the world who will tell you to release your tax returns while you’re under a standard routine audit,” Eric Trump said.
