The 1990 movie Crazy People illustrated the humor that would ensue if we ever actually committed to truth in advertising. “Buy Volvos,” the ad guys—having stumbled on the honest approach—declared. “They’re boxy. But they’re good.”

Donald Trump should consider bringing these guys in to run his campaign. As crazy as it sounds, being honest might just work. At least, that’s according to a new survey of likely voters in Nevada and Arizona.

By a two-to-one margin, likely Nevada voters prefer an “arrogant ass” over an “unrepentant criminal.” And, by an even wider margin, they prefer a “loud-mount jerk” over a “habitual liar.”

Results in the Arizona survey were even more stark, with the “arrogant ass”/”habitual liar” candidate garnering 77 percent in both questions.

The survey was conducted by September Inc. (a company that boasts an impressive client list) using IVR (Interactive Voice Response) technology.

No word yet on whether this will make its way into new TV ads, boasting: “Donald Trump. Loud-Mouth Jerk. But Not a Habitual Liar.”
