Two Dallas police officers are on administrative leave after being arrested in separate incidents over Labor Day weekend.

Police arrested Senior Corporal Jose Gamez on assault charges Sunday and Sergeant Zackary Kerr for misdemeanor trespassing Monday.

Gamez is being charged for allegedly choking his girlfriend, according to a Dallas Police Department statement. He reportedly shook her, threw her on the bed and choked her while the couple was arguing in their room at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. Gamez’s girlfriend said she was slammed again after being choked.

Responding officers could hear yelling from the couple’s room, according to police reports. Gamez answered the door and was subsequently arrested and taken to jail before being released.

In a another incident, police in Southlake, Texas, arrested Kerr for kicking in a door at a house party where he thought his daughter may have been drugged. He decided to take matters into his own hands after he and a Southlake officer tried knocking and no one responded.

Kerr reportedly kicked the door down when the Southlake officer was away at his vehicle. He was arrested and released from jail after posting bond.

Kerr is a 26-year veteran of the force assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit, and Gamez is a seven-year veteran. Both are under internal investigations.

Gamez was previously investigated for the off-duty shooting death of an armed murder suspect in 2014. He was cleared of any wrongdoing upon review.
