Last week, when Hillary Clinton said that “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables…The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, [and] Islamophobic,” I didn’t write anything about it. ‘

For one thing, it is clear that at least some of Trump’s supporters do fit into this category (although I would suggest the percentage is much lower than 50 percent). Second, it it felt a bit like a tit for tat—exacting revenge for the exploitation of Mitt Romney’s unfortunate “47 percent” comments.

But I’m breaking my silence because, it turns out, Clinton was more than willing to score political points when the tables were turned. I’m referring to the time that Sen. Barack Obama infamously referred to Americans who “cling to guns and religion” back in 2008.

“I was taken aback by the demeaning remarks Senator Obama made about people in small-town America,” Clinton said at the time.” His remarks are elitist and out of touch.”

new Trump ad chides Clinton for “demonizing hard-working people.” It’s basically the same thing she said about Obama.

As if we needed further proof, this is yet more evidence that all political outrage is selective, and that the axiom, “Where you stand depends on where you sit,” is a modern-day truism. Just 56 more days to go, folks!
